Switchblade Suicide Opens For Queensryche
Switchblade Suicide, a local band from the Boston area, had the privilege of opening for one of the world’s best Metal bands: Queensrÿche. This was the first time I personally heard from or listened to music from them. My mission going into the House of Blues was to photograph Queensrÿche. I was pleasantly surprised. In fact, I was impressed.
Members Dennis Vasconcelos (Lead Vocals/Guitar), Geoff Jewett (Lead Guitar/Vocals), JJ Baulz (Bass) and Barry Silver (Drums) gave us a 40 minute set full of energy, high screams and hard riffs. These guys call their style of music a “bastard child of hard rock and heavy metal, devouring the riffs of the ‘70s (KISS, Aerosmith), the driving dominance of the ‘80s (AC/DC, Guns ‘N Roses), and the remorseless angst of the ‘90s (Alice in Chains).” They were right on that assessment. I was able to hear bits and pieces of those bands in their playing, predominantly the heavy 80’s metal influence. Their unique blend of musical styles kept the audience jumping and screaming during the whole set.
If you like this brand of hard rock music, you’ll definitely enjoy listening to Switchblade Suicide. Learn more about this great band at switchbladesuicide.com. And of course, you can follow them throughout the different social media sites.
Until the next time you go and see them live (recommended), here’s a video of their performance at the House of Blues in Boston on October 26, 2011:
